The Last Station

by Jay Parini

The peaceful surroundings and the beautiful Russian countryside, successfully captured by the author, are a stark contrast to the turbulent feelings and unresolved conflict between the main characters. Might tempt you to try some Tolstoy having read a bit about his life in this mix of fact and fiction.
