The Artist of Eikando

by Linda Lee Welch

When Junko's parents die within minutes of each other, she is unable to avoid memories for her difficult childhood. Why were her parents so cruelly indifferent to her? She travels to Japan to discover whether the answer lies in what happened to them during the Second World War. An easy-to-read story about the struggle to rebuild damaged lives.

When Junko came home for Christmas in her freshman year, she was surprised to find her belongings in boxes in the loft. She slept on the couch in the family room, and didn't come home for the holidays again. Diane and Peter Bayliss didn't mind. On the rare occasions that Junko did see her folks after that, they always looked vaguely surprised, as if they couldn't quite remember her name.
