First Fruits

by Penelope Evans

An underlying air of menace from the very first page which gets darker as the plot unfolds. Gripping stuff, right up to the last page.

I made a new friend today. Her name is Lydia. Now I'm wondering how to get rid of her.
That's the trouble with new girls. They promise more than they can deliver. Although it's not that bad. It just depends on what you need them for. Look at Hilary. Hardly what you would call ideal material, but she's come in useful in all sorts of ways. It's only that, well, I'd hoped for more.
But Lydia, she had potential. Or so I thought.
