Lost Luggage

by Jordi Punti

Humour and pathos vie in an entertaining account of a Catalan life lived on the road. Four brothers born in different countries who didn't know of each others' existence meet to look for their missing father and so piece together the stories of his life. And everyone has their own tale, their friends, their mothers, themselves. It's also the story of Spain emerging from the Franco era. Do the boys find their father? Read on and find out.

When Bundo and Petroli came by to collect Dad on their way out of town again (sometimes, depending on their timetables they stayed for breakfast or dinner), our mothers made the most of the occasion to question Dad's comrade in arms. They asked him whether he'd managed to see nun's wooden leg, or to give them his version of their adventure when they escaped from the orphanage by getting out through an empty cistern in the school grounds after which they spent hours and hours moving around the sewers of Barcelona until they ended up at the air-raid shelter in carrer Fraternitat.
