A Man in Love

by Karl Ove Knausgaard

Karl Ove's aims and views are expressed in the excerpt - but he is also balancing his desire to find 'the meaning of life' with childcare, clinical depression (not his) and being a Norwegian living in Sweden. I found this an amazing book, it didn't even matter that I hadn't read volume one first. But then I like a challenge in terms of style and content (and this book delivered on both counts).

As is always the case with books that seem groundbreaking, they put into words what for me had been suspicions, feelings, hunches ..... The reason Geir's book was so important to me also had to do with the fact that our backgrounds were so similar - we were exactly the same age, we knew the same people from the same places, we had both spent our adult lives reading and writing and studying - so how could it be that we'd ended up in radically different places?
