Monstrous Regiment

by Terry Pratchett

Not so much in the middle as at the start but I cannot put this book down. Terry Pratchett is a magician, anyone who hasn't read at least some of his discworld novels is missing a real treat. He makes me laugh out loud!

Pratchett is a master of satire and this book like many of his Discworld novels is a skit on a well used theme usual. But brilliantly done, as usual. I loved the idea of the Black Ribboners (vampires who have sworn off blood and have the motto "Not One Drop" for their organisation) and the running gag about socks! But his characters are lovingly and sympathetically created making his books more than just an empty pastiche.
