This book was first published in 1938 but is timeless and still a wonderful read. It was light years ahead of its time and I would imagine quite shocking in it's day, but I find it a gripping read, Gothic and very dark in parts with a heroin who is never named and an oppressive house (manderlay) the most dominant presance.A must read.

its Jane Eyre but scarier! Rebbecca haunts m still....
I also read this book as a teenager and have re-read it several times since. It is gripping and unpredictable and one of those books which is hard to put down once you have started to read it

I first read this at about age 14 or 15 and loved it then, and love it now. So haunting and beautiful. You really feel for the unnamed wife! Love it.
I think this book is wonderful and a real page turner!
