I was taken staight into the lives of a Victorian family who end up taken to Australia as convicts and I just couldn't get them out of my head. The story and characters became part of my life and I just felt such a strong attachment to their situation that this is one of those books I'll remember for ever and will definitely read again.

I agree completely. Kate Grenville takes you right into their lives in one of the toughest settings imaginable, while at the same time, one of the most promising and maybe even charming places. The people she writes of were made of very tough stuff and they are those who made Australia the place it is today. As I am one of them, I take my hat off to all who went before me. Well worth the read.
