This is one of favourite books, pure escapism. It helped that I've actually been to the Island in the story, Spinilonga. I thought this book beautifully written, Hislop paints a beautful picture of the island of Crete and Spinilonga. She brings her characters' to so much to life that you feel as you really know them.

Sorry, found this rather disappointing after a good beginning the story fizzled out. The author got lots of publicity due to it being a 'Richard and Judy' book. I would not be taken in by their recommendation again.

I also agree. Enjoyed this read very much. Will definitely read her new novel, 'The return' - infact, I've just ordered it.
