I don't know; got mixed feelings about this book. I found the time shifting between childhood and present somewhat confusing. There are chapters you have to plough through as they are overlong with tedious narrative; yet, some of her descriptions later on are charming and intricate. At some parts of the book, especially the beginning, Green comes across as a nervous novice writer. Then, she seems to relax in her craft and her writing improves.

This book was definitely not 'rubbish'! Very well written and atmospheric. Perhaps it just didn't appeal to bookwarorm

I agree, I waited for ages for this seeing it had been on the Richard and Judy Bookclub list, I read about 40 pages and just couldnt get into it, I tried again but still it just didn't grab me, even though it was set in Wales where I live...it was rubbish. Very dubious of the Richard and Judy suggestions now!
