Private Peaceful

by Michael Morpurgo

I'm a fan of Mr Morpurgo's books so it didn't take me long to choose this book! I found it very hard to put this down. If you're put off because you think it's only a children's book, you've missed a treat. Typical of Morpurgo, it's beautifully written with such descriptive language and emotion. The tragedy of war is so poignant. The characters are gradually understood as you delve deeper into the story.I've recommended this to both children and adults in my library and both have returned with rave reviews!

My first book by Morpurgo. A nice and moving story. This book is recommented to both young and old. By the way I am 55 .
I don't really like Morpurgo as an author, but this book was the exception. Introduced to it through school whilst shadowing the Carneige shortlist. Would recommend to both adults and children. Very moving.
