Tales of the City Series of six books

by Armistead Maupin

The first book in this series was bought for me as a Christmas present, by February I had bought and read the entire series. I re-read them from time to time and have spent many a tired day at work because no matter how many times I read these books, they're almost impossible to put down, the characters are fantastic and Maupin seems to be an advocate of 'write what you know', so even when the situations are a little unusual, they still ring true. Read these books!!

I was given the first couple of these by my uncle when I was about to have my first child. He said (quite rightly) 'You won't be able to concentrate on a long book, but you are going to love dipping into these'. Michael Tolliver is one of my favourite characters of all time - he feels like an old friend. (And I am so happy that 'Michael Tolliver Lives'.)

I agree all the 'Tales of the City' books are excellent. A brilliant series!
