Faro's Daughter

by Georgette Heyer

I have a very old paperback copy of Faro's Daughter that I have had for well over 30 years. The spine is broken and the pages are yellow with age but whenever I feel down or under pressure or just want to bury my head under the blankets, I reach out for my 'comfort' read and before long I have slipped into an era of polite society, mild adventures and happy endings.

I know the text almost by heart and can pick up the story almost instantly. I soon feel relaxed and smile and before long I am back ready to face another day with a smile. Family have offered to buy me a new copy but there is something very comforting about holding this copy and reading a story I have read hundreds of times before.
