I tried to read this book whilst eating my lunches at work. Big mistake for a vegetarian! Nothing but stalking, skinning, etc. of animals. It was making me sick, so I stopped. And I had been finding all the details about flint-knapping incredibly boring, too.I am not usually very critical of books, or easily bored, but I must make an exception for this one.

I really enjoyed this too and thought it was very original. Not many writers tackle this period or genre so well. But I was so disappointed with the sequel as the main character suddenly became superwoman, discovering fire, taming a wolf and becoming the first ever horserider by just hopping on a wild horse (and not falling off!) - yeah right. So I could never bring myself to read the subsequent novels.
