The Gunpowder Plot

by Antonia Fraser

Brilliant! I was expecting that it would be, as I have got 'Mary Queen of Scots' and also 'Cromwell' by Antonia Fraser on my shelves already, and thoroughly enjoyed them both. Obviously, the outcome in these kinds of books is already known, and we think we know also the reasons why it was so. The writer's skill is in challenging the 'why' and in challenging preconceptions too of the characters involved. The result in this book as in her others is that it reads almost like a novel, with the far from dry style and witty observations. Unputdownable!
