Night Watch

by Sarah Waters

Sarah Waters has wriiten a riveting account of the Blitz in London while at the same time teasing out a mystery which starts at the chronological end of the story and works backwards in time. This risk-taking device means we start with the emotional fallout and have to read on to discover what happened and why. Clever, and so deeply researched in the period that it feels vividly real. I loved it, wish it had won every book prize going.
