Firmin

by Sam Savage

This book is a great short read, perfect for a mid to long journey. It is very unique, unlike anything I've read before and was very easy to read but funny, emotional and engaging at the same time! The basis of the story is about a Rat that can read and his depressed musings about his longong to be loved and accepted by the human world. This book is funny and charming but despite the seemingly innocent subject matter it is definitely not a book for kids, contains adult content.

I was suggested this book by a friend of mine who studies and works at a univeristy in Western Australia. Because my local library (and also where I work) doesn't stock this title, I went ahead with my gut and just purchased the only copy available at my local bookshop and I'm so glad that I did. This book is touching with dashes of commentary on the human condition both beautiful and painful to witness.
