Little Face

by Sophie Hannah

I'm reading this book for the next reading group meeting. I wasn't sure if I'd like it and several group members have said that they don't, but I'm finding it hard to turn the light out at bedtime. It's a novel about control. Alice is convinced that her newborn daughter has been swapped for another baby. In many ways she's a victim, both of circumstance (orphaned by her parents' deaths in a car crash, she became depressed) and of her controlling and manipulative mother-in-law Vivienne and her sadistic husband David. It's a mixture of psychological thriller and police procedural and, whilst the subject matter is distressing, the writing is compulsive - in some ways I don't want to get to the end, but I can't wait to!

I've read and really enjoyed this book, there's a big twist at the end which seems obvious when you think about it, but it really took me by surprise! You think that you know what's going on, but it suddenly turns out that you were looking in completely the wrong place.
