Mistress of the Art of Death

by Ariana Franklin

A medieval detective story with a most unusual heroine - a female physician from Sicily. She and her companions are brought to England by Kinh Henry 11 to solve the disappearence and murder of children from Cambridge. When her boss is killed, the physician has to take over the case and solves it. The sense of period detail and atmosphere is compelling and the book includes a little romance and a little humour to leaven the dark passages about the crimes. I couldn't put it down and neither could friends I recommended it to.
