The Pillars Of The Earth

by Ken Follett

This book, although long, was really hard to put down. The story builds up slowly but turns into an exciting historical epic. The construction of a cathedral is a surprisingly interesting subject but the book is really about the lives of the people who are all involved in some way or another with the cathedral building and the journey of its development.
I was torn between wanting to read it as quickly as possible and wanting to savour every page.

Have to agree about this book - it is great. It came between me and my sleep as I just wanted to keep on reading it. I have recommended it to others and they have enjoyed it too. Am looking forward to reading follow up World without end and other Ken Follet books.

Yes, I agree with all of you. it is my favourite book. The film based on it is out now in America, in UK should be out in Autumn.

This is a great story - It has a bit of everything . For people who enjoy historical fiction of this period it is a "must read". The characters and plot really come alive within a rich tapestry of the period. I have also read "World without End" - a sort of follow up to this novel and again it does not disapoint !!

Really enjoyed this even though it was long. The tale seems to pick up pace after the scene has been set and I agree it was hard to put down.
