Reader-friendly approaches for 8-14s

Who is the course for?

  • Staff working with young people in public libraries
  • Staff who are not children’s specialists but who are expected to deal with children and young people in the library
  • The focus can be on 8+ children or teenagers or both – let us know the balance you prefer when you book

Participants will:

  • Explore how to connect children and young people with books
  • Discuss the range of attitudes to reading and experiences of books in this age-group through individual case-studies
  • Gain confidence in talking to readers of all ages
  • Learn how to identify reading audiences by analysing cover messages
  • Practise selecting appropriate stock for a reader-centred display
  • Practise using on-shelf display acrylics to get more issues from promotions

No of participants: 20 max

Timing: One-day course

Cost: £1100 plus trainer expenses for one day. Course fee includes a package of acrylic display units and graphics worth £300.
