Who is the course for?

  • Anyone interested in setting up and running reading groups. 
  • Can focus on reading groups for adults or for young people
  • Can be customised for public library staff or staff in schools
  • The course has also been run for adult education tutors, arts officers and for bookshop staff

Participants will:

  • Explore how reading groups can provide an important creative and social outlet for readers
  • Discover a range of ideas and practical tips to help reading group sessions and bookchains go well
  • Understand the role of the facilitator and feel more confident in handling group dynamics
  • Learn how to encourage groups to become self-supporting
  • Explore how reader-to-reader promotion can benefit the library and all its readers
