Frontline New Edition

An introduction to the theory and practice of reader-centred work in the adult lending library. You can take Modules 1-4 as a short course to learn easy ways to offer your readers more, to gain knowledge of books and audiences, and to practice effective display skills in the library. In the full Frontline course, Module 5 introduces ways to use the power of readers recommending to each other in the library. In Modules 6 and 7, Trainees plan, manage and evaluate a small-scale promotion targeted to an audience of their choice.

Browsers into Borrowers

Effective in refurbished or self-issue libraries and anywhere where staff need to work directly with books and readers instead of behind the counter. The course develops staff skills and routines to merchandise and market books in all parts of the library - children, teenagers, adult non-fiction, large print. It develops confidence in engaging with readers and making the most of the opportunities offered by moving to RFID.

Effective Outreach Projects

The course offers library staff working in any role an opportunity to undertake a time-limited, small-scale piece of outreach work which is supported, evaluated and involves their colleagues. The aim is to test out practical projects with value in themselves and also to develop a platform for future investment in outreach and partnership projects.
