Working with library teams

Our proposals are a starting point for creative discussion rather than a fixed blueprint. The period between winning a contract and implementing it is one where crucial refinements can take place as we get to understand your needs better and seek the best possible solutions.

Library staff enjoy working with us – we have a reputation for bringing stimulating ideas with good humour.

When it comes to installation, our dedicated Project Manager ensures everything goes smoothly. We are flexible in planning, everything arrives on site in phased deliveries and our fitters are tidy and clear everything away. We will set the shelves at all the right intervals for your planned stock layout to make it as easy as possible for staff to restock the shelves.

“We wanted to ensure that the design of Toxteth Library interior was in keeping with the magnificent Edwardian interior yet would make people feel that this was also a modern library worthy of the 21st Century. We think that Opening the Book captured this aspiration and really delivered on our vision of the best of the old meeting with state of the art new - and with a real added wow factor for good measure. Opening the Book had great ideas and were also prepared to work with our ideas in order to realise the vision we wanted.”
John Keane, Learning and Diversity Manager, Liverpool City Council

“Working with Opening the Book on the design and fit of the library has been a great experience for Rotherham. Their flexibility and responsiveness has impressed library staff at all levels as well as senior managers and staff in Facilities Management. I feel that the quality of the service provided by Opening the Book goes far beyond fitting attractive shelving in a library space. They have enthused our staff and are helping us to change everybody's perception of what a library can be.”
Bernard Murphy, Manager, Library and Information Service, Rotherham MBC

“Working with Opening the Book gave Cambridgeshire a fresh approach to how we develop libraries in schools. Opening the Book’s contribution is not only about excellent furniture and fittings for the library; it encompasses the ethos of an individual school, the style and setting of the school and crucially how the children are going to engage with the books in the library.

“The involvement with Opening the Book did not stop once the shelves are up. Schools have found the follow-up training on how to keep their library fresh and inviting to children very valuable. This approach has the added benefit of engaging all staff as stakeholders in their new facility.”
Ann Leeming, Manager, Cambridgeshire Schools Library Service
