Shipwrecked

Love the programme Shipwrecked? Why not read a few more adventures stories about being stranded at sea.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Everyone’s thought about being stranded at sea, but very few have dreamed up the likelihood of being stuck on a boat with a spotted hyena and a 450 pound Bengali Tiger. This is exactly what happens to a 16 year old boy named pi. This book follow Pi’s emotional journey for survival. If the cast of ‘shipwreck think they have a tough job trying to survive, then they should read this book and they’d soon realise it could be a hell of a lot worse.

Lord of the Flies by William Golding

Several fiery arguments have broken out on shipwreck but they haven’t quite yet fallen away from the depth of civilisation outline in this book.   When a group of English schoolboys become stranded on deserted island things couldn’t possibly go more wrong. As pig hunter Jack takes charge, the boys turn into vicious savages who plan to hunt their fellow school mates Ralph and Piggy.

Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe

Robinson Crusoe is about a man’s journey into sea to search for his fortune. After becoming shipwrecked he lives on a deserted island for 27 years. When he is rescued he returns home a rich man after investing in some plantations before becoming stranded. Like Robinson Crusoe I’m sure members of the shipwrecked cast are hoping to return home with a large fortune.

Shipwrecked: Adventures of a Japanese Boy by Rhoda Blumberg

This is the story of fourteen year old Manjiro who was rescued by an American Whaling ship, taken to Hawaii, and then later to New England. Fearing he could never return to his home country Japan he goes to school to learn English. After raising some money he returned to Japan and became the first person to be promoted from peasant to samurai. Some of the casts might gain temporary fame from ‘shipwrecked but nothing like this prestigious title.
