1999 Bookstart goes national

Bookstart is the first national books for babies programme in the world. Begun by Booktrust with a pilot in Birmingham in1992, 60 schemes were operating by1998 and research showed remarkable impact on the development of the babies involved. In 1999 the programme went national and now aims to reach every baby born in the UK. www.bookstart.co.uk
