The first ever dual-language (Welsh/English) reader site was launched on 13 May 2004.
Developed as part of Estyn Allan (Branching Out in Wales) the site offers readers the chance to choose a book according to the type of break it offers.

As part of the two year Scottish Reader Development Network programme, a national promotion, Read the Festival, was planned and implemented by all Scottish Library authorities in August 2004.
The promotion is designed to capitalise on the Edinburgh International Book Festival and engage library users in the Book Festival buzz. One of the main elements of the promotion is a new reader-centred website.

Commissioned by Colman Getty on behalf of the Man Booker Prize, www.themanbookerprize.com/favourites is a tool for readers interested in reading some of the books on the longlist but not sure which to start with.
As soon as the longlist was announced the books were despatched to readers who wrote about them from the perspective of the reading experience they offer. Their comments form the basis of the site which enables users to select which books they would like to read according to whether, for instance, they would prefer a traditional or experimental read; something that is morally neutral or morally indignant; or something that is humorous or straight. The site features direct links to all existing online library catalogues in the UK to enable users to check whether books are available for loan in their own library.
The site went live on Thursday, 2 September, 2004, exactly one week after the longlist was announced.
